The steering shaft is the connection between the steering gear and the steering column. It ensures that the relative movements between the driver’s cab and chassis that occur while driving have no influence on the steering behavior.

Alongside the pedals, the steering wheel is the most important interface between the driver and the vehicle. The steering shaft connects the steering wheel to the steering gear in a torsionally rigid manner and also enables the height of the steering wheel to be adjusted – and is therefore a decisive factor for an ergonomic and safe seating position for the driver. In contrast to production using other processes, Felss steering shafts are manufactured from a single part: This complete machining is possible with the combined rotary swaging and axial forming processes. The one-piece version improves the straightness of the workpiece and reduces production costs by eliminating the need for welding. The cost savings achieved by lightweight steering systems are so massive that it is also worthwhile intervening in ongoing series production.
